The Tracy city clerk will conduct a lottery Thursday, Jan. 9, to fill nine fireworks stand openings for Fourth of July fundraisers.

According to Division Chief Dave Bramell of Tracy Fire Department, 52 community nonprofit groups applied by Dec. 5 to sell fireworks and raise money for their groups, and 44 of those will take part in the lottery.

The lottery to select the nine nonprofits, and three alternates, will begin at 5 p.m. Thursday at City Hall, 333 Civic Center Drive.

Those groups must give the city their nonprofit identification number and a letter of incorporation proving that they are 501(c) tax-exempt organizations. They must also prove that their permanent meeting place is within city limits and that at least 20 members of the group are Tracy residents.
