DC player makes all-MVL second team

Delta Charter High School’s girls volleyball team had one player make the all-Mountain Valley League list.

Sophomore Vanessa Sanchez was named to the second team. The Dragons finished their season at 2-14 in the MVL.



Falcons finish last at cross-country meet

The Millennium High girls cross-country team finished in last place during its first state-level competition on Saturday, Nov. 24, in Fresno.

The Falcons placed 22nd in the Division V varsity girls competition at the California Interscholastic Federation championship meet at Woodward Park with an average time of 24 minutes, 48 seconds on the 5K course.

The division champion, University High of San Francisco, averaged 19:50.

The top runner for the Falcons was junior Anneliese Bradley (22:06). She placed 132nd out of 184 runners. The overall winner was Julia Maxwell (17:26) from Branson (North Coast Section) of Ross.

Joining Bradley at the state meet were Falcon teammates Serena Cho (24:35), Priyana Patel (24:46), Estefania Torres (25:34), Virginia Xuereb (26:55), Gianna Oliveri (28:42) and Marissa Walten (29:59).



St. Bernard’s boys win Thanksgiving tournament

For the third year in a row, the seventh-grade boys from St. Bernard’s Catholic School in Tracy won the Stockton CYO Thanksgiving Tournament.

St. Anthony’s Catholic School in Manteca hosted the event Friday, Nov. 23 to Sunday, Nov. 25.

The St. Bernard’s team, “Spirit,” beat St. Edward’s of Stockton and St. Anthony’s in the opening rounds, and then beat St. Anthony’s again in the final, 36-28.

St. Bernard’s players include Joseph Lomas, Matthew Mendonca, Drew Reddick, Corey Reyes, Christian Reyes, Jack Traut and Miles Turner. The Spirit’s coach is Chris Lomas.



Bulldogs, Cougars to play for DYFL titles

The Tracy Junior Bulldogs junior varsity team will go for its third straight Delta Youth Football League title on Saturday, Dec. 1.

They play the Lathrop Spartans at 1 p.m. Saturday in the DYFL Super Bowl at Kimball High.

The team is currently on a two-year winning streak.

A 38-18 win over the Delta Rebels in the DYFL South Conference championship on Nov. 17 gave the team its 38th-straight victory.

During the streak, the team won a league championship in 2011. Most of those same players and coaches also went undefeated in 2010 as a novice team.

Their 13-0 season in 2012 included six shutouts and at least four offensive touchdowns per game.

Also playing Saturday is the Tracy Cougars novice team, champion of the DYFL South Conference. The Cougars are 11-1 and will face the Northwest Trojans of Stockton at 11 a.m.
