Two Tracy cousins managed top five finishes at the Stockton 99 Speedway on April 10, after a rain-induced week off.

Justin Philpott, driving his No. 05 car, started second and finished fourth in the Western Late Models race. Later that night, Philpott was involved in a crash on Lap 22 with Danville’s Tim Spurgeon, between turns three and four, the only time the caution flag dropped in the second race.

While Philpott’s car was banged up, his cousin, Ryan Philpott, finished the race fifth.

The Tracy Hurricanes 15-and-under boys Amateur Athletic Union basketball team (4-5) took third place at a SAC Area Sports tournament in Sacramento on April 10.

The Hurricanes won two games and lost one game in the one-day, six-team tournament. The team’s only loss was a close game against the eventual tournament champion, P.C.H., 57-48. In their two wins, the Hurricanes beat Lincoln Elite, 46-37, and the Fast Break Basketball Club, 62-53, to finish in third place. In the three-game tournament, Chandler Alves scored 43 points, Alex Toledo had 41 points and Luke Hanna had 39.
