Classic Gymnastics’ Level 4 team took second place all-around at the Northern California Gymnastics Association Zone 3 Championship at Champion Gymnastics in Stockton.
The Classic Level 4 team finished with a score of 111.30, right behind first-place Byers, which scored 111.375.
Individual performances for the Level 4 team included Erika Pulliam’s first-place finishes in both vault and floor exercise. She was second all-around in the senior class. Kaylin Dennington took first on the uneven bars in the 10-year-old class, her sixth win in a row in that event, and tied for third all-around. Kimmy Dennington claimed first on the uneven bars in the 8-year-old class and was second place all-around as an individual.
As zone champions, they all qualified to go to the Level 4 state championship meet Dec. 5 and 6 in Pinole. Other gymnasts who qualified are: Catarina Borges, Kalani Akers, Bryanna Chaname, Elizabeth Campbell, Payton Bryant, Amanda Scudder and Veronica Knowlden.
Three gymnasts, Lauren Giles, Katelyn Garay and Ellie Higgins, will attend the Level 5 state meet Nov. 21 and 22 in Livermore. Donna Rotella qualified for the Level 6 meet Nov. 14 in Lemoore.

Tracy gymnast takes first in her division
Jaala Downes, who trains at West Coast Olympic Gymnastics Academy in Pleasanton, took first place all-around in her division at the Northern California Gymnastics Association Zone 6 Championship at California Gymnastics Academy in Livermore last weekend.
Jaala competes in Level 5 and qualified for that level’s state championship meet, scheduled for Nov. 21 at Las Positas College. Jaala’s all-around score was 36.425, which included second place on the floor exercise (9.425), seventh on vault (8.65), a tie for seventh on the balance beam (9.0), and second on the uneven bars (9.35).

Tracy gymnast Miranda May, who trains with Gymfinity of Livermore, took 12th place all-around at the Northern California Gymnastics Zone 6 meet this past weekend, which qualifies her for the state championships in the Level 5 Senior division. Her all-around score was 34.40, and her event scores were vault, 11th (8.525), bars, sixth (9.125), beam 13th (7.675), and floor, fifth (9.075).
Her teammate Sierra Norvell took 15th place in the Level 5 Younger division with an all-around score of 32.825, including a tie for second place on the floor exercises with a score of 9.150. Her other scores were: vault, 15th (7.750), bars, 15th (7.500), and beam, 11th (8.425).
Bombers make finals in recent tournaments
The Bay Valley Bombers 11U baseball team finished in second place in the Nations Baseball Team Appreciation Weekend tournament at Twin Creeks Sports Complex in Sunnyvale this past weekend.
The Bombers beat the Surf City Buckeyes 21-8, DBA Crushers 13-7, Norcal Grizzlies 11-5, and North Bay Warriors 9-8, before they lost in the final to the Surf City Buckeyes 14-8.
Top hitters were: Ricky Staas six-for-18 with a home run, four runs batted-in and nine runs scored, Garrett Cichella 12 for 21 with a double, two triples, eight RBIs and 10 runs scored, Matt Dallas six for 17 with a double, triple, six RBIs and eight runs scored, Bryce Keeney seven for 12 with three doubles, nine RBIs and four runs scored, Michael Mendonca five for 13 with two RBIs and seven runs scored, Michael Mendiola eight for 14 with a double, eight RBIs and seven runs scored, Isaac Crisp 12 for 17 with a double, seven RBIs and six runs scored, Jake Fordyce six for 14 with four RBIs and three runs scored, and Tyler Vandemark five for 15 with a double, two RBIs and five runs scored.
Jake Fordyce, Isaac Crisp, Tyler Vandemark and Darrell Staley provided solid defense and pitchers were Dallas, Mendonca, Mendiola, Staas and Cichella.
That game follows the Bombers’ first place finish in the National portion of the Halloween Bash, Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, also at Twin Creeks. The Bombers beat the El Cerrito Cyclones 3-0, lost to the Elk Grove Outlaws 9-6, beat the Norcal Titans 9-3, and beat the El Cerrito Cyclones in the championship game 14-4.
Top hitters for the tournament were Garrett Cichella four for 7 with a double, three RBIs and seven runs scored, Matt Dallas four for eight with a triple, four RBIs and five runs scored, Michael Mendonca three for eight with a double, three RBIs and four runs scored, Darrell Staley three for 10 with an RBI and two runs scored. Highlight for the tournament was a no-hitter thrown by Matt Dallas against El Cerrito in a 3-0 win for the Bombers.
The Bombers have a 15-7-1 record after six tournaments, with three first place finishes and a second and third place finish.
Cougars move to first in Fall League soccer
The California Cougars girls U18 team climbed into first place in the NorCal Premier Fall League Saturday with a 5-0 win over Galt FC Heat. Alexis Poppoff scored two goals and Bri Day, Kylie Gacer and Valeria Ordaz added one goal each. Day, Karly Dunning, Ordaz, Mariela Pimentel, and Michelle Russell had one assist each. Goalkeeper Brianna Murawski posted her fourth shutout of the league season behind the strong defensive play of Dunning, Amie Gillett, Sarah Manseau, Michelle Rusell and Rebecca Scott. The Cougars continue league play this coming weekend against Cal Odyssey in Fresno.
