The Tigers were down 13-3 at the end of three innings on Sunday, June 24, but were determined to come away with a win. The team scored in the fourth and fifth innings on but the game was postponed because of darkness at the end of six with the Rockies leading, 16-14.
On Monday, June 25, the Tigers rallied for six runs in the seventh to take a final lead and the victory.
Antonio Gigliotti had four base hits and batted in two runs, and Thomas Greeley and Tyler Diaz both double and singled twice, Diaz with four RBIs and Greely with 2 RBIs, to lead the Tiger offense.
Starting pitcher was Justin Thomassen while reliever Jake Fordyce got the win, and Christian Rosette got the save after he pitched during the seventh inning.
Also representing Tracy Little League in the District 67 tournament were the Junior National Giants, who were eliminated on Thursday, June 21, with a 15-7 loss to Weston Ranch. Damien Hutchins had three base hits and batted in three runs, Ben Seagrave and Danny Moreno also had hits and drove in runs, and Ricky Staas, Kyle McPartland and Joel Parks also had hits. Staas pitched four innings and McPartland and Jacob Wesely pitched relief.
Majors
The Mountain House Giants’ season ended with a 1-0 loss to Spreckels Park on Saturday, June 23, just short of the semifinals in the Little League District 67 Tournament of Champions at Mossdale Landing Community Park in Lathrop.
The Giants claimed a 2-1 win on Friday, June 22, over the Northgate A’s in a game that showcased the Mountain House team’s defensive skills.
After the A’s got a solo homer to open the first inning, pitcher Skylar Lewis and the Giants defense, including a double play by Jacob Juarez in the third, held the A’s scoreless for the rest of the game.
The Giants tied it up 1-1 in the fourth. Diego Cardenas reached base in the sixth, Kantaro Ito doubled to move him into scoring position, and Olivia Jimenez got a base hit to bring Cardenas home.
The Tracy Little League Major National Phillies were eliminated on Friday, June 22, after they lost two in a row, first to Manteca 13-9 on Thursday and then to 14-4 to Spreckels Park on Friday.
Minors
The Tracy American Yankees were denied a chance to play in the final rounds of the Little League District 67 Tournament of Champions after their 7-6 loss to the Manteca Giants on Thursday, June 21, at Brock Elliott School in Manteca.
The Yankees had worked their way up through the loser bracket to make the top four and battled back against the Giants, who led 4-1 at the end of two innings. The Yankees made it a 4-4 game in the third before the Giants pulled ahead 6-4 in the bottom of the third. The Yankees came through again in the sixth to tie it up 6-6 only to see the Giants score one more in the bottom of the sixth to win it.
Ethan Haines doubled and singled and Jesse Gonsalves singled twice. Haines also pitched for the Yankees and struck out seven batters over four innings.
Next up for Little League teams will be the District 67 all star tournaments starting Saturday, June 30. Teams will have a chance to advance to state, regional and national competition.
Tracy Little League has four teams and Mountain House Little League has one team in the Minor tournament, to be held at Central Park and Wicklund School in Mountain House.
Tracy has two teams in the 11-year-old tournament at Paul Weston Park in Stockton. Tracy has two teams and Mountain House has a team in the Major tournament at Brock Elliott School in Manteca, and Tracy has two teams in the Junior tournament at Sierra High School in Manteca.
