Little League: Junior Giants, Minor A Giants, head to TOCs

Two more Tracy Little League teams qualified for the Little League District 67 Tournament of Champions on Thursday, June 14, after they emerged as champions of their local tournaments.

The Tracy Junior National Giants will join the Tracy Junior American Tigers in the District 67 Junior tournament at Patterson’s Las Palmas Fields.

Also heading for district play are the Tracy Minor A National Giants, who will join the Minor A American Yankees and the Mountain House Minor Yankees at their District 67 TOC at Brock Elementary School in Manteca.

Other local teams playing in the District 67 TOCs are the Major National Phillies, Major American Yankees and Mountain House Giants, who will play in Lathrop.

Games began Saturday, June 16, and continue through next weekend.



Junior National: Giants 9, Cardinals 6

The Cardinals outhit the Giants on Thursday, June 14, at Monticello School, racking up eight base hits to the Giants’ four.

But the Cardinals handed a six-run lead to the Giants in the first inning on a series of walks and batters hit by pitches, which started the Giants on their way to a 9-6 win and the division title.

The Cardinals came back with three runs in the bottom of the first, with Brett Mansell and Luis Segura both getting hits.

Mansell doubled to start the third inning, and Luis Segura and Izzy Segura, both with two hits for the day, each singled tie it at 6-6 at the end of three.

The Giants’ bats pushed across one run each in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. Kyle McPartland doubled twice, and Mason Stevenson and Ben Seagrave both singled.

Damien Hutchins got the win after he came in to pitch for the Giants in the third and finished the game.



Minor A National: Giants 16, Rockies 7

The Giants took control of the Minor A National championship game Thursday, June 14, against the Rockies at Jefferson School with a five-run third inning and a four-run fourth, building an 11-3 lead at the end of five.

Both teams rallied in the final innings for the final 16-7 Giants victory.

Rey Rey Bicomong had four base hits for the Giants, Trevor Pope tripled twice, Matthew Canada had three hits, Nathan Rich singled twice, and Benjamin Riley and Tio Villalobos also had hits.

Starting pitcher Villalobos went three innings for the win and struck out four batters.

T.J. Rucker had two hits for the Rockies, Gabriel Andora doubled, and Alfred Robinson, Thomas Anderson, Caden Fry and Joey Page all had hits.
