Brighter Christmas kicks off

A dinner and auction will help kick off the Brighter Christmas drive this season as the charity’s organizers host their yearly Elks Lodge Dinner from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17.

The evening at the lodge, 6400 W. 11th St., is the second largest fundraiser for Brighter Christmas, which gives food and toys to needy families for the Christmas holiday.

The auction will feature a variety of items, including a seven-night stay at a condo in Hawaii.

Tickets for the prime rib dinner are $15, and a reservation is required.

The dinner and auction are open to both men and women this year.

Canned food drive continues

The Golden 1 Credit Union invites people to drop off canned goods and other non-perishable food in collection bins at its branches, including the Tracy branch at 3202 W. Grant Line Road.

The food drive will continue through Friday, Nov. 18. Local donations will go to a nearby community food bank.

Past efforts at the credit union’s 83 branches have collected more than 2 tons of food.
