A Republican congressional hopeful filed a lawsuit today accusing a Lodi businessman of libel and slander.

Robert Beadles, R-Lodi, owner of construction safety company Robert Beadles, Inc., is running against five other GOP candidates for the right to challenge 11th Congressional District incumbent Jerry McNerney, D-Pleasanton.

On Jan. 4, San Joaquin County Sheriff’s deputies and California Highway Patrol officers served search warrants at Beadles’ home and business in response to allegations by a rival business owner Gary Anderson that the congressional hopeful stole hundreds of signs and construction equipment.

The lawsuit, filed against Anderson, who owns Farwest Safety, Inc., alleges that Anderson lied to investigators to get them to arrest Beadles. Beadles said that because an employee of Farwest Safety sent e-mails to several media outlets that day to alert them of the investigation, Anderson’s claims were politically motivated.

Deputies confiscated upward of 300 items during a search last week, but returned the bulk of them Friday after Beadles dug up receipts to prove that he owns them. Everything he couldn’t dig up receipts for still sits at the sheriff’s office as evidence in the ongoing investigation, said sheriff’s office spokesman Dep. Les Garcia.

“Whatever he proved was his, that’s what he got back,” Garcia said Wednesday. “It is an active investigation.”

Cops handcuffed Beadles in front of his wife and children, and then detained him for four hours at the Sheriff’s Office in French Camp, according to his campaign manager Hector Barajas. More than 40 officers showed up to serve the warrant, he said, adding that it seemed like an overreaction for a non-violent crime.

“No one was in imminent danger, no one was going to get hurt,” Barajas said. “Was it really necessary to handcuff him in front of his wife and children?”

Garcia said he didn’t know how many officers showed up that day or how many items were confiscated. It’s not unusual for several officers and more than a couple agencies to get involved with executing search warrants, he added.

No criminal charges had been filed against Beadles as of this evening. And remarks from the 32-year-old first-time candidate at a political forum Monday night prompted one of his political opponents to call for a third-party investigation.

Retired U.S. Marshal Tony Amador, R-Lodi, urged California Attorney General Jerry Brown in a letter released today to see whether the recent criminal investigation was politically motivated.

Old tea bag?

Instead of listening to someone use old-school deragatory terms. Go to.

94% of the votes coincided with Nancey.

Mr. Vista:

Mr.11th asked the question about Pombos defeat, I just gave some information. Mc Nerney is not running against Pombo.

So the 94% you wrote about can't happen. I think you are confused his voting record has nothing to do with last win.

His ability to win may have been to do with those who liked his special interest voting agenda. Mc Nerney will be running against a new bunch of Republicans. Some call them TEA Party republicans.

Archives? that ten percent landslide you call it happened a couple of term ago.

Check out the CURRENT approval rating on Capitol hill as it inches closer to the ten percent mark.

How do you explain his CURRENT ninety percent voting record with nancy?

You must not be a Mathmetician?

Concerned 11th person:

You have your opinion and that's what makes this a great country. Use your right at the polls in June and November. Just for the record Mc Nerney just beat Pombo by 10,000 votes. The totals were some where around 88,000 to 77,000 in favor of Mc Nerney. The big problem was those votes were out of some 110,000 registered democrats to 123,000 republicans voters in the district. Check the archives.

TomBenigno,

Although I didn't vote for him, I'm beginning to doubt anything you say. Jerry McNerney narrowly defeated Pombo. And Pombo is once again running for office. Are you sure you know what's going on? I'll say one thing for sure. That 94% voting record with Nancy won't help one bit.

This time I'm going out on a limb. I think it will be a Republican by 94%.

And I hope you get your money back.

Concerned Organ:

Pombo did nothing in his last 4 terms in office. That's why he was not re_elected. If Jerry can't do better he will be easier to replace, just watch. I have no stake in it, except I want my cash down payment back that I put in my house.

Anyway what's your stake in it. Pambos not running.

Concerned:

More scandal for the republicans to overcome. This is the cannibalism of party members I talked about. It don't look good.

Sort of reminds me of th shenanigans one of our former city council-people did an got away with ta get elected, stealin an trashin th opposition's campaign signs. Stoopin pretty low ta get elected.

Wall it finally turned out this counsel-person wasn't much good fer anythin. Too bad it took th Tracy citizens a long time ta recognize th bad apple they elected an finally got rid of.

Just goes ta show ya. If ya judge these people by thair words an promises yer probably gonna get burned. It's thair actions that count.

However in th political "beauty an popularity contest" of empty headed talkin heads that talk a good talk while doin other thangs in secret, this sort of thang's gonna happen over and over again. An it's gonna continue until votin folk start doin their homework ta see fer themselves what thair candidates have been really doin.

Sort of like th Wizard of Oz. "Pay no attention ta th man behind th curtain."

If this guy stole what he allegedly stole, tan his hide good an bounce him out of politics.

However if th guy accusin him is just makin political hay to get himself elected, bounce him out of th political arena fer good. We don't need empty promises an liars to rule over us, we need honest people ta represent us an our needs.

Tracy Press,

Is there a candidate from Tracy, CA that we could vote for?

Look at what's going on. TPD got turned down for 11th congressional district funding, crime is rampant, the economy is down, unemployment is high, theyre sending more troops.

And isn't it true that French Camp and Dublin get all the perks from our congressman?

I just asking if the current congressman is interested in doing anything for Tracy, CA?

I'd like to hear where this is going.

Personally, I think we'd do better with a Republican Congressman in San Joaquin County.

Bring it on.

Robert Beadles is not happy with another candidate unnamed in this story, Brad Goehring.

Jon Mendelson blogged about the Republican candidates opposing McNerney and the forum which was held earlier this week in Manteca.

http://jmendelson05.blogspot.com/2010/01/fireworks-at-candidates-forum.html

Beadles devoted his opening and closing statements at the forum to this controversy. He charged that one of the candidates in the race is behind the investigation and search of his personal residence and business, and that one of the candidates has also hired illegal aliens and cheated on his IRS tax return.

During his closing statement he repeated his allegations and turned to Brad Goehring and asked him to 'do something about this'.
