The Junior Giants baseball program in Tracy is seeking volunteer coaches for its upcoming summer league.

Volunteers must be willing to learn the fundamentals of coaching and donate two or three hours a week to serve in the noncompetitive league.

The Tracy Parks and Community Services Department sponsor the local program, which was created by the San Francisco Giants to teach boys and girls ages 4 to 13.

The basics of baseball and the benefits of team sports, including teamwork, confidence and leadership are all taught to players.

No experience is necessary to become a coach. The time commitment for coaches is one practice and one game each week from July 2 to Aug. 15.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and are subject to a fingerprint and background check. Deadline to apply for coaching positions is June 3.

Those interested in applying should call Justin Geibig, 831-6207.
