Over 240 students at the academy, 1635 Chester Drive, took part in the day-long event that raised money for the American Heart Association.
Children from preschool to fourth grade spent the morning jumping rope in the school’s gymnasium. They had gathered pledges for donations based on how many minutes they would hop, skip and jump rope.
Each student averaged about 50 minutes jumping rope in 5 minute sessions during the morning.
Students in fifth through eighth grades participated in the Hoops for Heart portion of the fundraiser with games on the blacktop and gymnasium.
Teams played nine games with two halves and a four-minute running clock.
Pam McCain, one of the organizers of the event, watched as kids sprinted across the court during their basketball games.
She said the kids loved the day long event, finding fun ways to stay healthy.
“This is for heart health awareness and exercise is a big part of it,” McCain said.
The goal was to raise $5,000 for the American Heart Association, she said. The total collected won’t be announced until Thursday, Jan. 31.
The fundraiser was held as part of the school’s celebration of National Lutheran Schools Week.
