News Briefs Learn to Fly Day

The Tracy Airport Association and Skyview Aviation, along with the Experimental Aircraft Association, will take part in International Learn to Fly Day, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at Tracy Municipal Airport, 5749 S. Tracy Blvd.

People can meet pilots and tour aircraft, and girls and boys ages 8 through 17 can fly free through the Young Eagles Program.

Youth seminar

The Islamic Society of Tracy will host a youth seminar in an effort to keep young people away from drugs, alcohol and gang violence from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Tracy Community Center, 440 E. 10th St. There will be speeches, youth skits and food.

THS class of ’70 reunion meeting

The Tracy High class of 1970 reunion steering committee will have a meeting at 6 p.m. Monday at 21 W. First St.

Bean Queen pageant meeting

The Tracy Chamber of Commerce will host a Tracy Bean Queen Pageant meeting Tuesday at 223 E. 10th St. The Little Sprout meeting will be at 6 p.m., and the Bean Queen and Princess meeting will be at 7 p.m.

The applicant and a parent or guardian must attend at least one mandatory meeting to participate. There is a cost of $25 per contestant.

Fire captain speaks

Tracy Fire Department Capt. Scott Arganbright will speak at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Tracy fire administration building, 835 N. Central Ave., as part of the West Side Pioneer Association of Tracy Historical Museum program. Arganbright will talk about restored firehouse artifacts. Admission is free, and refreshments will be served.

Business development seminar

The Tracy Chamber of Commerce will host its May Business Development Seminar, on the topic of Employee Law for Small Business Owners, from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at M & J Bistro, 2515 N. Tracy Blvd.

Those who attend will gain a better understanding of employee and employer rights and how to avoid civil complaints from past and present employees. Tickets, which include lunch, must be ordered by Tuesday. Tickets cost $10 for chamber members or $15 for nonmembers.

Free government surplus food

Low-income residents of San Joaquin County can obtain free government-surplus food at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at Larch Clover Community Center, 11157 W. Larch Road. Total monthly income cannot exceed $1,354 for one person, $1,821 for two, $2,289 for three, $2,756 for four, $3,224 for five or $3,691 for six people. Participants must take a grocery bag to help with distribution.

Nature nights

Dr. Lee Christianson, professor emeritus at the University of the Pacific Department of Biological Sciences, will present a lecture titled “Animals of the Oak Grove” from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Oak Grove Nature Center, 4520 W. Eight Mile Road, in Stockton. The program is free, but there is a $5 charge per vehicle to enter the park.

The Stockton Astronomical Society will host its Astronomy in the Park program from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday at Oak Grove Nature Center, 4520 W. Eight Mile Road, in Stockton. Volunteers will provide telescopes for stargazing from 8 p.m. until the end. The program is free, but there is a $5 charge per vehicle to enter the park.

To create awareness for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, there will be a presentation by the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

Delta Charter's graduation is actually on Friday, May 28th at 6:30. Might want to change the date you have so that friends planning to attend won't show up to an empty field.
