Gymnastics: Kimball’s Garay outscores everyone at Los Altos

Kimball High’s Shaylyn Garay outscored all her competition at a four-way gymnastics meet at Los Altos High on Tuesday, May 1, in the final Santa Clara Valley Athletic League meet before teams head into league finals.

Tracy High’s team placed second overall at Tuesday’s meet (120.65) behind Los Altos (128.45). Kimball was third (116.9) and Mountain View High, which had only one gymnast competing, finished fourth (24.5).

Garay’s first-place all-around score (37.80) included first place marks in every individual event except the vault, in which she placed fourth.

Tracy’s leading gymnast was Rachel Pombo with a fourth-place all-around finish (33.90). Tracy’s Megan Jessen was fifth (32.40), Morgan Balaban of Tracy was sixth, (30.05) and Kimball’s Morgan Grow was seventh (29.55).

Local high school varsity teams will compete for the league finals on May 11 at Gymtowne Gymnastics in Moss Beach.

Kimball high will host the SCVAL junior varsity north league finals starting at 4 p.m. Friday, May 4, at Classic Gymnastics in Tracy.
