The Jefferson School marching band drummed up some business as they led hundreds of shoppers into Macy’s as the store celebrated its grand opening this morning.

The newest tenant at West Valley Mall officially opened its doors at 10 a.m. this morning as hundreds of people waited in line for a chance at $10.00 gift cards for the first 500 shoppers.

Mayor Brent Ives gave a special proclamation from the city on the store’s opening along with speeches from Macy’s Tracy store manager Renee Correia and the Macy’s president and director of stores R.B. Harrison.

In addition to the marching band performance the store had several events planned throughout the day including a fashion show, music and chances to win various contests including a trip to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Hours for the new store will be 10 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

I don't see it being a pain to drive to the surrounding towns since they are only about 20-45 minutes away. But why should we if our own mall can step it up by giving us some of the stores the other cities have. I'd rather spend my money in the town I live in. I think that the city needs to rally and get some good outlet stores as well. That place is run down too and has very few stores out there. It would bring tons of people from the surrounding cities if the stores were more appealing!

I don't like driving in Modesto or Pleasanton. There's too much traffic in Modesto. Modesto reminds me of Walnut Creek. I moved out of Pleasanton to get away from the traffic.

Clinique, Estee Lauder, Clarks, Easy Spirit, Calvin Klein, Liz Clairborne, Macy's clothes, great selection of shoes.

Thanks for your response, until recently there was a Liz Claiborne outlet in town and JCPenney carries Liz, Clarks & Easy Spirit. I'll admit they might not have them in the store here and you would have to order online and have them delivered to your home, but what can't you buy online and send direct to your house these days? I don't know much about makeup, but those brands appear to be sold in higher end stores such as Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Dillards etc...

Macy's clothes obviously are their own house brands not sold elsewhere, but may be worth a look. I see Calvin Klein clothing at Costco. I'll check out Macy's one of these weeks after the hoohah has died down.

Anyone been over to Orchard Valley Center in Manteca recently? The large anchor stores are doing well but the rest of that place is a ghost town.

Why is it such a p in the a to drive to one of the area's large malls anyway? It's what 30 minutes to Pleasanton or Modesto? It's not like we live in the pioneer days and you have to hitch up the horses and buggy and spend an entire day getting to town.

I think Macys looks nicer than the previous store. And they don't carry As Seen on TV merchandise.

TomBenigno,

I'm wasnt speaking on behalf of anyone. It was a question in response to a flyer I recieved in the mail, which had Jerry's name printed on it.

Glad to hear GGP is out of bankruptcy. That means Macys was already a big success.

Well I think it's great! It's a lot different from Gottschalk. Great labels, makeup and shoes. You can't get that at Walmart or any locally owned store. Now the rest of the mall has to step it up. Maybe JCPenneys will carry a better selection/styles? They'll have to do something to compete. I would like to see Forever 21, Hollister, Coldwater Creek among others to come. If they can survive in Brentwood, they chould be do fine in Tracy.

GGP is out of bankruptancy it was announced today.

Yes on Measure J.

I've only lived in Tracy for about 2 1/2 years and I think that the Mall has done it's best with the economy being so bad. However, I'm not sure how it works.....but they need to fill some of the empty space. And not with some stupid, cheapie stores that no one has ever heard of. They need real stores like, The Children's Place, John T's, Old Navy should come back, As seen on TV, Disney Store, Express, Godiva, Gymboree. Ilike the fact that we now have Macy's an upscale store at the mall. And I totally disagree, it looks nothing like Gottchalks, That store was sad and rundown too. We need to have more stores so that the people of Tracy can spend money in their own city and not have to go outside to Modesto, Stocton, Livemore, Manteca & Scaramento. Bring back the businesses and it will create more jobs!

I have given the people of Tracy a chance. I've lived here for over a decade and watched it go down the toilet, how about you?????

Macys’ is classy? (Only in Tracy…)

I went there over the weekend, I’m not impressed. It isn’t any better than when Gottschalks was there. I may shop there in a pinch, but otherwise I intend to shop at locally owned stores and Wall-Mart.

I did expect more from Macys’ it’s set up much like Gottschalks. I see it losing steam in the very near future, after the holidays.

I hope we get a return on our investment, but it’s too early to tell. Now lets do something about the flippen crime in this twon!!!

What are you a spokes persons for Macy's or the Chamber or for Brent Ive's? What I ran for has nothing to do with the article.

As for the flyers the only stuff I get is from the republican party *** bite. About the abortion clinics, how do you know Macy's don't contribute to that cause.

Vote NO on (E) & (D).

TomBenigno,

Macys opened early to participate in their national charity event. Doors opened Saturday in case you weren't aware. And on that day they were respectable about it and didn't toot their own horn.

Anyway, I really dont believe you're still at it, but I thought I would pose a question to you. BTW, didn't you run for mayor once?

Did you get a campaign flyer (yesterday) from our congressman that you endorsed saying he is giving our tax money to abortion clinics?

Showed up in the mail yesterday. Look for it.

Response to PublicEnemy#1:

Tom Benigno wrote:

Why don't you get your own script? Why should the tax payers pay to have a business brought into Tracy.

When I opened my business's I had to raise my own capitol to operate, and also to make payroll for my employees. We can see this is just another ploy by the status quo to keep Brent and his gang in office.

The question is? Can the money put up by the city to have Macy's in Tracy be considered as campaign contributions. If so Brent just got a 2.75 million contribution.

Please VOTE no on measuer (E) & (D).

What a stunt to help Brent Ive's get elected. If we divided the 500 people who were there into 2.75 million that would be a major campaign contribution of the citizens of Tracy to get Brent elected.

I wish I had thought of it.

Tom, you are an idiot.

That's why I voted for you for Govenor.

@ChrisRoberts

It wasn't really funny the first time. Macys doesn't even sell bb guns and that police officer was probably having a bad day or a bad year or a bad life. Don't let it reflect on you. I'm sure you can do better. The rest of the people in the city probably aren't so bad if you give them a try they'd probably appreciate your sense of humor. I do, but try not to over do it. It shows.

Yes Macys is a nice classy shop and like all stores they do. The same thing happens in Manteca too. It's everywhere.

People will always line up for a free $10 dollar gift card. I remember lining up at Fry's Electronics for just a free hot dog and a soda when me and my associates could have afforded a six dollar cheeseburger instead. And I'd do it all over again if we could get an economy like that back again.

Nice response VOP.

"Sad state of the economy?" Monster what planet do you live on? Unemployment in San Joaquin County is around 14%; it was 5% only 5 years ago. Things are not good, and it’s probably going to get worse before it gets better. If you can't get excited about a company investing and expanding these days, while drawing in hundreds of people for a grand opening, then you are out of touch with reality.
