Girls Tennis: West keeps up momentum with wins over Lincoln, Tracy

The West High tennis team (7-0) kept up its pre-league winning streak this week, but the Wolf Pack’s opponents are getting tougher.

The latest win was a 5-4 match at home against Lincoln High of Stockton on Wednesday, Sept 5.

West’s No. 1 singles player, Emma Bell, beat Lincoln’s Hannah Litton, 6-2, 6-0, and West’s No. 2, Regina Pacheco, beat Ashley Bones 6-2, 6-4.

Also winning for West were Jessica Diaz, who beat her opponent 6-0, 6-3, and the doubles teams of Abby Sevilla and Julie Schobey, 6-1, 6-4, and Coleen Andrada and Allie Bettencourt, 7-5, 6-4.

Lincoln won three singles matches and one doubles match.

West 5, Tracy 4

West’s other close match this week was the first of two crosstown contests against Tracy High (2-1) on Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Tracy High.

The teams played again Thursday, Sept. 6, at West High and will get into league play next week. Thursday’s meet concluded after press time.

In the singles matches, West’s Bell beat Aubrey Boehm, 6-1, 6-0; Pacheco beat Camille McDaniel, 6-2, 6-0; and Pounds beat Sarah Kellogg, 6-4, 6-4.

In the doubles, West’s Sevilla and Schoby beat Keara O’Brien and Gianna Violante, 7-5, 6-2, and Andrada and Bettencourt beat Lindsey Ewen and Katrina Broughton, 7-5, 6-2.

Among Tracy’s singles wins was Cassidy Dolstra’s victory against Diaz, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5). Tracy’s Maisy Green beat Ashley Phillips, 6-1, 6-2, and Marissa Anderson beat Maliyah Shavers 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

In the doubles, Tracy’s Taylor Hurlock and Kaitlin Mizuno beat Rachel Vindiola and Kristen Steed, 6-4, 6-2.

Tracy 8, Beyer 1

Tracy High’s tennis team was victorious in the Bulldogs’ second match of the season at Sierra High on Aug. 30. Tracy won all of the singles matches and lost only one doubles match a close contest.

In the singles matches, Chiara Adamo beat Vannida Nguyen 6-3, 6-3; Boehm beat Ana Cardenas 8-2; McDaniel beat Ana Cardenas 8-6; Dolstra beat Maddie Banks 6-0, 6-1; Green beat Annie Banks 6-1, 6-1; and Anderson beat Rosie Reynolds 6-2, 6-2.

In the doubles matches, Violante and Ewen beat Barbara Baxter and Kelsey Wells, 6-3, 6-4; and Broughton and Hurlock beat Liana Bassett and Simean Third, 6-2, 6-3. Sierra’s Emma Hunter and Brenda Padilla beat Tracy’s Kellogg and O’Brien 7-6 (7-3), 4-6, 10-5.

West 8, Beyer 1

West High’s tennis team scored a road win against Beyer High in Modesto on Aug. 30, achieving shutout wins in four of the nine matches.

Pacheco and Diaz both won their singles matches 6-0, 6-0; Shavers won 6-0, 6-3; Pounds won 6-0, 6-1; and Sevilla won 6-1, 6-1. West’s doubles teams of Schobey and Andrada and Jorda and Steed won their matches 6-0, 6-0, and Bettencourt and Vindiola won 6-0, 6-1.

Beyer won the No. 1 singles match as Simone Jacques beat Bell 6-2, 6-3.
