Kimball scored first on a 45-yard pass from Zack Johnson to Damon Jackson. The Mustangs (4-1, 2-0 VOL) took over from there as they scored two touchdowns in the first half and two in the second for a 28-7 lead at halftime.
Oakdale scored twice in the third quarter before Kimball scored again, this time with Evan Owens making a 52-yard run to the end zone to cut Oakdale’s lead to 42-14. Zach Orr made the kick for Kimball both times. The Mustangs scored twice more to make the final score 56-14.
“We definitely had our chances early on,” Kimball coach Steve Anastasio said, adding that bold moves by the Mustangs, including converting on fourth-and-25 on one drive and on fourth-and-15 on another, kept Oakdale in control of the game.
Kimball’s sophomores (0-4-1, 0-2 VOL) lost to Oakdale 41-21. Oakdale had a 21-7 lead at the half, with Kimball scoring on Rashaad Cooper’s 65-yard run. Cooper scored again in the third quarter on a 30-yard pass from Jacob Taloa, and Taloa ran in the ball from the 7-yard line for a Jaguar touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Kimball’s freshmen (0-5, 0-2 VOL) lost at home 47-14 to Oakdale on Thursday, Sept. 27. Marcus Vega scored for the Jaguars on a 5-yard run and again on a 95-yard kickoff return. Ronaldo Tijero threw a 2-point conversion to Kameron Palmquist.
Also on Thursday, Tracy’s freshmen (4-1) beat Pitman 6-0 in Turlock, and West’s freshmen (1-5) lost to Los Banos 20-19 at home. Matthew Roe ran in two touchdowns for West and Christian Velasco ran in a touchdown.
The Tracy and West varsity and sophomore teams, and the Millennium varsity team, who all played Zero Week games, are all taking a week off before they get into league play next weekend.
