Five teams make final rounds of TOCs

The Tracy Major American Phillies and Junior American Tigers held onto their places in their respective championship brackets in the Little League District 67 Tournaments of Champions this week.

Tracy’s Minor American Yankees and Junior National Giants and the Mountain House Major Giants would have to climb back through the losers brackets to make this weekend’s championship rounds.

Championship games will be played Saturday, June 23, and Sunday, June 24, in Manteca, Lathrop and Patterson.



Minor

The Minor American Yankees climbed up through the losers bracket to beat Spreckels Park 11-8 on Wednesday, June 20, at Brock Elliott School in Manteca. Jeremiah Fontenot homered and pitched 2-2/3 innings for the win, striking out six batters, and Christopher Payne and Ethan Haines had two hits each.

The Yankees faced Manteca on Thursday, June 22, for a chance to move to the semifinals.

The Yankees opened with a 14-12 loss in nine innings to Patterson on Saturday, June 16. They then won three games in a row, including an 8-1 win over the Tracy National Giants, where Fontenot hit his first homer of the series, Josh Garcia went 3-for-3 and Matthew Pombo pitched all six innings for the win.

The Giants opened with a 10-4 win over the Manteca Giants on Saturday but were eliminated with a loss to Salida on Sunday and their loss to the Tracy American Yankees on Monday.

The Mountain House Yankees were eliminated with a Sunday loss to Spreckels Park and a Monday loss to Manteca.



Major

The Major National Phillies faced Manteca on Thursday for a place in the District 67 semifinals.

The Phillies advanced with a 15-8 win over the Mountain House Giants on Saturday at Mossdale Landing Community Park in Lathrop. Jeremias DePerio hit two home runs and a double, and a Mountain House outfielder robbed him of another potential homer. He also pitched five innings for the win.

Jacob Terry doubled twice and singled, Nick Sansoni doubled and singled twice, Jimmy Thomas and Ryan Rivera both doubled and singled, Mikey O’Leary had two hits and Kyle Hickok, Jesse Roy and Brendan Terry also had hits.

The Mountain House Giants followed the loss with wins over Patterson on Tuesday and Weston Ranch on Wednesday. They play again today against either Salida or Northgate.

The Tracy Yankees were eliminated with losses to Manteca on Saturday and to Spreckels Park on Tuesday.



Junior

The Tracy American Tigers moved to today’s semifinal game against Lathrop after they beat the Tracy National Giants 18-5 on Wednesday at Las Palmas Fields in Patterson.

That loss dropped the Giants into the losers bracket, and they played again Thursday .

Both local teams opened the tournament with wins, the Tigers beating Northgate on Saturday and Salida on Sunday. The Giants beat Manteca in their first game Saturday.
