Born Aug. 14, 1923, in San Felipe, Zambales, Philippines, Mr. Fontecha was a member of the Philippine guerrillas during World War II. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1965 as a mess management specialist.
In Tracy, Mr. Fontecha was a parishioner of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Retired Fleet Reserve Association.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Nenetriz Fontecha of Tracy; five sons, Rolando Fontecha, and his wife, Marilou, and Leander Fontecha, and his wife, Leila, all of Tracy, Edwin Fontecha, and his wife, Zenaida, of San Jose, Janrey Fontecha, and his wife, Amore, of Antioch and Raymond Fontecha, and his wife, Irene, of Mountain House.
Also surviving are two siblings, Jimmie Fontecha, and his wife, Leonida, of National City and Arsenia Concepcion, and her husband, Nicolas, of the Philippines; 12 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Preceding him in death were his parents and four siblings.
A funeral service at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 163 W. Eaton Ave., was followed by burial in Tracy Cemetery, 501 E. Schulte Road. Hotchkiss Mortuary, 5 W. Highland Ave., handled arrangements.
