The Tracy Express 8-and-Under All-Stars finished their season with a 4-0-1 weekend at the Pleasant Hill Girls Invitational Fastpitch Tournament.

Competition took place Saturday, July 21, and Sunday, July 22, at Pleasant Oaks Fields and Pleasant Hill Middle School.

The team opened Saturday’s round-robin play with an 8-0 win over the San Lorenzo Heat, followed by a 6-0 win over the Pleasant Hill Panthers and a 7-7 tie with Havoc. They opened Sunday’s championship bracket with a 10-0 win over the San Lorenzo Heat and then beat Havoc 9-7 in the championship game.

Coach Casey Barberis said the weekend wins showed the team’s improvement during the season.

“I was excited to watch the girls have such determination to turn the prior losses into wins,” Barberis said.

Coach Danielle Barberis added that the goal for the season was to see the girls strive to play their best softball.

“I focused on promoting the passion and skills they share for softball, while simultaneously placing a high emphasis on building self-esteem,” she said.

She noted that player Emily Cabral struggled at the plate at the start of the season, but with a little practice, she became an RBI contributor and even hit a grand slam during the season.

“Watching Emily’s confidence skyrocket was incredible,” Danielle Barberis said.

Players on the Tracy Express All Stars are Sophia Alejandre, Mackenzie Barberis, Janelle Bergmann, Katelyn Bridgeman, Emily Cabral, Makayla Cordiro, Danielle Corell, Kaela Jones, Danica Larwill, Alexis Melo, Annaliese Morford, Alaina Pelican, Ariana Retuta and Julia Yanke.
