Mr. James, an Oklahoma native born Feb. 15, 1927, moved to Tracy six months ago with his wife to live with family for health reasons.
Mr. James served in the U.S. Navy in World War II.
He retired in 1989 from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory following a 28-year career as a maintenance mechanic and swing shift supervisor.
Mr. James previously worked for Argo Pump Co. in San Leandro. He also founded Valley Trail Riders Club in Livermore.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Ila James of Livermore; two children, Terry James of Georgia and Dale Lynn James, and his wife, Jan, of Tracy; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services at Sanger-Del Rey Cemetery in Sanger will be private. Hotchkiss Mortuary, 5 W. Highland Ave., is handling arrangements.
