He had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer two months earlier.
Mr. Rock was born March 9, 1946, in Port Huron, Mich., and served in the U.S. Air Force, developing an interest in electronics that led him to a career in seismology. While visiting Brazil, he met his future wife, Noeme, and they made their home together in Albuquerque, N.M.
The family moved to Tracy when Mr. Rock took a job at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. He retired after 23 years. In retirement, he consulted for Berkeley Labs.
The Rocks moved to Camarillo in May 2013 to be near family.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Noeme Rock of Camarillo; two sons, Paulo Leite, and his wife, Jenn, of Santa Clarita and Uel Leite, and his wife, Amy, of Camarillo; four siblings; four grandchildren; and other relatives.
A memorial service will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday at Faith Community Church, 723 S. D St., in Oxnard.
