Cross Country: West boys win first league meet of season

West High’s varsity cross country team hosted its first meet of the Tri-City Athletic League season against visiting McNair High of Stockton. Teams competed at Eagal Lakes, just east of town, along the San Joaquin River.

Boys: West 26, McNair 31

West High’s varsity boys won a close match over the Eagles.

West’s top runner was Richard Tran, who ran the 5K course at Eagal Lakes with a second-place time of

19 minutes, 19 seconds.

Other top runners contributing to West’s final score were Nick Vic, third place (19:35); Yuyavan Robles, fifth (20:09); Josh Sale, seventh (20:36); and Jacob Sale, ninth (21:16).

Also running for West were Barak Nehoran (21:23), Chandler Chen (21:33), Mico Torregosa (23:10), Francis Acevedo (23:43) and Justin Hoang (32:49).

Girls: McNair 26, West 36

McNair won the varsity girls division, but it was a chance for West to establish some of the Wolf Pack’s best times of the year moving into the league season.

Lydia Young was the Wolf Pack’s top runner with a second-place finish of 23:48 on the 5K course.

Other scores for West include Elise Green, sixth (27:37), Sabrina Freeman, seventh (28:40), Natasha Bartolome (31:09) and Alli Weseman (37:05).
