Cross Country: Kimball senior is top local runner at Bella Vista meet

Cross-country runners from Kimball, Millennium and Tracy high schools competed at the Bella Vista Bronco Invitational meet on Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Willow Hills Course at Folsom High.

Kimball coach Ben Trombley said that the event is a good warmup for post-season competition, with the Sac-Joaquin Section championship meet to be held on the same course on Nov. 16.

Top local runner was Kimball senior Francesca Loayza. She placed 18th out of 149 runners with a time of 20:01.94 on the 5K course. She led the Kimball varsity girls to a 12th place finish out of 17 teams in the large schools division with a score of 309. Winner was St. Francis High (46).

Rounding out Kimball’s team were sophomores Kyli Huynh (22:27.80), Jessica Kwan (22:53.63), Kayla Pereira (24:52.81) and Dora Furtado (25:11.67). Tracy High junior Kaitlin Spencer (21:19.58) ran as an individual and finished in 38th place.

Kimball High’s varsity boys placed 12th out of 19 teams in the large schools division with a score of 353. Champion was Clovis North (50).

Freshman Nathan Perez (18:26.06) finished 55th out of 158 runners on the 5K course. The Kimball team also included junior Fernando Carrasco (19:22.58), freshman Chandler Geha (19:25.31), senior Greg Dawson (19:33.84) and sophomore Andrew Jung (19:38.27). Competing as an individual was Tracy High senior Chris Garcia (19:09.13), who placed 79th.

Millennium’s varsity girls finished in 12th place out of 16 teams in the small schools division with a score of 320. Champion was Del Oro (49).

Senior Anneliese Bradley (23:17.99) led the Falcon team, finishing in 56th place out of 154 runners.

Also on the Falcon team were freshman Mae Sandhu (24:39.57), sophomore Priyana Patel (26:04.48), junior Serena Cho (26:14.44), and sophomore Virginia Xuereb (26:39.38)

Millennium’s varsity boys placed 23rd out of 23 teams in the small schools division with a score of 648. Champion was Placer High (53).

Lead runner for the Falcons was sophomore Josh Harrison (20:50.18), placing 146th out of 211 athletes.

Completing the Falcon team were sophomore J.T. Amador (21:05.94), junior Aaron Rio (22:04.95), freshman Paolo DeLosSantos (22:25.06) and senior Paul Cardenas (23:01.12).
