Tracy’s Sister City program is getting a financial boost through the recent publication of a cookbook and the scheduling of an upcoming international stage show in August.
Both projects provide funding for the Tracy Sister City Association, which sponsors youth-exchange programs with Tracy’s two sister cities — Memuro, Japan, and Velas in the Azores, Portugal.
Debbie Elliott, who chair’s the association finance committee, said the 250-page cookbook already has sold out all 220 copies of the first printing, but orders are now being taken for a second printing.
The loose-leaf cookbook contains recipes contributed by members of the Tracy Sister City Association, chaperones of exchange visits, members of local clubs and celebrity cooks.
Chief among the celebrity recipe contributors is Maria Shriver, wife of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. She has provided a recipe for her oriental chicken salad. Locally, Tracy Fire Department Chief Chris Bosch has given a recipe for homemade cinnamon rolls.
“Our cookbook includes recipes from Tracy and from around the world,” said Elliott, who published her first cookbook when her husband, retired Army Col. Bob Elliott, was a military attaché at the American Embassy in Seoul, South Korea.
What has been named the International Cultural Performance and Fashion Show also will have a decidedly worldwide flavor. Performers, clad in native attire, will perform international musical selections and dances Aug. 9 at the Grand Theatre Center for the Arts.
“We will have 32 separate performances from all over the world,” Elliott said. “With the native attire and variety of entertainment styles of the performers, it should be a colorful presentation.”
Tickets to the 2 p.m. Aug. 9 program in the Grand’s main theater are $20 for adults and $8 for children 10 and younger. They can be reserved by phoning 834-5297.
The same contact number can be called to order cookbooks, which sell for $15 each or two for $25.
