The city of Tracy sent notices in the April utility bill to nearly 24,000 customers stating residents can pay for water, sewer and garbage service at any of three 7-Eleven stores in town by using a unique bar code embedded on their bills and delinquent notices.
Once the bar code is scanned, the city is notified of the cash payment, and the customer is given a receipt. Payments are accepted any time and any day of the week.
PayNearMe can process utility payments between $3 and $1,000. Residents can still mail in their bills, pay via the city website, or visit City Hall, 333 Civic Center Plaza.
The city of Tracy finance department’s Robert Harmon said the cash-only payment service helps people with no credit card or checking account pay their bills any time.
He said eight people used the new service Friday, May 3, when the every-other-Friday closure of City Hall coincided with the end of the billing cycle.
The 7-Eleven stores are located at 2360 W. Grant Line Road, 455 W. Grant Line Road and 25460 Schulte Road.
The payment service is made possible by a partnership with PayNearMe and InfoSend Inc., which is the current bill print and mail service for the city of Tracy.
