A Humboldt State University freshman who grew up in Tracy organized an animal cruelty protest outside of McDonald’s on 11th Street Friday.

Eleven others joined 18-year-old MarySue Savage outside the fast-food restaurant, holding up signs decrying the restaurant’s alleged complicity in animal cruelty.

Savage, who recently returned from an East Coast internship with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, said she organized the gathering to protest McDonald’s practice of buying its chicken from Tyson, a company she said cruelly slaughters its animals.

“For McDonald’s, we really want to get out there and raise awareness,” Savage said. “Chickens are hung upside down; they’re shackled. We just want the public to know that.”

A McDonald’s spokesman said Savage’s claims are inaccurate and that the company buys chicken from suppliers that kill the birds as humanely as possible.

Savage said she doesn’t know where the Tracy McDonald’s gets its chicken. The point of her protest, she said, is to pressure McDonald’s to buy chicken from a supplier that gases to death its animals before scalding and beheading them.

While I don't entirely agree with satrunbagger's viewpoint on things, I do agree with his right ta express those views when they don't castigate or deride anyone else.

An fer the others readin this, thairs a world of difference between castigate an admonish.

On th other hand, while I agree with yer position on th war effort, I don't agree with ya levlin a curse in God's name at anyone.

It seems pretty ta me ya aren't Christian but ya just could be not thinkin clearly if ya are.

So on th off chance ya are, might I suggest ya get yer Good Book an re-study through Leviticus 19:18,34, 1 John 2:8-10, 1 John 3:14-18, 23, 1 John 4:7-8,11, 1 John 4:20-21, 2 John 1:5, John 15:12-13,17, Romans 12:10, Galatians 5:13-14, Colossians 3:12-13 1 Timothy 4:9-10, James 2:8, 1 Peter 1:22, 1 Peter 3:8-9 & Matthew 25:31-46.

An when yer puzzlin over th word brother, in these instances, it ain't talkin about yer kin, it's talkin about all of humanity.

Please understand, I'm not tryin ta preach at cha, just tryin ta make sure ya don't miss th grand finale because ya forgot somethin important or wern't thinkin straight an said somethin in the heat of passion ya don't really mean.

But if ya did mean it, then that's yer right too. Th Old Man up stairs gives us all th right ta do an say what we want an he don't force us. It's called free will.

Seems ta me, all us people claimin ta be Christian, that includes me, could stand ta re-study these words. Ya see none of us are really innocent when it comes to hatin people at times. Never hurts ta be reminded about these thangs every now an then because we all slip up now an then. Th problem is when we do it all th time an don't care.

satrunbadger, your another useless idiot. What have you done to support the troops? Anything? I hate people like you. I've talked to several friends, cousins over in Afghanistan and Iraq and they hate to see you protesting the wars and not supporting them. This does not mean you have to support the war but GOD DAMN YOU! I hope they cut your head off, I bet you made several comments to your friends in your lame protest about how we treat the Gitmo terrorists eh? Prick

My, my. I see rational thought is lacking in this day and age. Why must we always attack others in forums such as this?

For the record I support the cause. It is always good for young people to have a cause whether you agree with it or not. I am one of the idiots who marched in protests against the current war and yes, I had my share of detractors. But it is still something I believe in. We didn't stop the war, and knew we wouldn't, but at least we had our voices heard.

It is the same here. Why attack these young people for what they believe in? Someday they may find a passion for something you agree with and they will be fighting for you. It could happen.

For disclosure I was there so I may be a bit biased. I didn't have to say this but I wanted to be honest in my posting. And no, I was not one of the protesters. I am only a supporter of their cause. I see no reason why the animals we eat cannot be treated humanely. They are not saying I can't eat them; they are asking for changes in the treatment of them.

My question to the ones who were protesting is this: Where do I find places to get my meat fix where the animals are humanely treated? You would be providing many of us with a service if you could post some information about companies where we can do this. This would help your cause greatly.

Ok. You may all go back to attacking them now.

Thanks fer yer critizim an bashin of th other people who have been critizing an bashin others in this forum.

Got a question fer ya, does the word hypocrite fit in yer personal discription of yerself? Or is it OK for ya to pick th beam out of yer neighbor's eye and not worry about th mote in yer own?

Sort of reminds me of a song back in th late sixties or early seventies. Think it was frum th group Steely Dan but don't remember and frankly I really don't care. Th lyrics stuck in my mind though as they have a ring of truth ta them.

"You can't even run your own life, I'll be damned if you'll run mind."

Another way of lookin at it is summed up in th old sayin, "Ya had better sweep yer own porch before ya start complainin about yer neighbor's porch."

Here's a recent favorite of mine, "Thairs plenty of room fer the animals on this planet, right next ta the mashed taters."

Compassion Ate One!!! Yes! I am edumated. Your book you wrote below should be published and sold on whoresllycares.com

My point by saying I agreed with pro-life was to point out how LAME protesting for a chicken was and how you could really spend your time doing something productive.

So I guess your pro-death? I guess you would say pro-choice right? Well it's my damn choice to tell you and the rest of the "pro-chicken" morons how it really is. Chickens are dumb animals that most people "really" don't care about.

Have any of you cry babies ever raised chickens? I have. Mine are "freerange" chickens and have all the room they can handle and are stress free. They naturally inflict more suffering upon each other as a course of living than any manner of slaughter you can offer. Get to the real agenda. You want us to stop eating ALL animal products! Well it ain't gonna happen! So eat your tofu burger and forget that I'm having some sort of dead animal as part of my meal today. It's great to be at the top of the food chain!

You people that sit around and have nothing better to do than bash people and groups who try to inform people of the inexcusable practices that go on in factory farms and slaughter houses, I would like to know what you all do personally to try to make the world a better place. This is a rhetorical statement, really I have heard quite enough from you all. My guess is you do NOTHING but stand by and criticize others. It is easier to criticize others that do what they can to make a difference and speak up for the living beings who do not have a voice and do nothing on your end to even get informed or take a compassionate stand on things.

And by the way, I know some wonderful people who do all their consumer buying with a compassionate soul. There are many companies now that know about us type people that try our best to not put money in the pockets of companies that abuse, use, test, or slaughter animals as well as abuse children.

You bashers out there deserve then what you eat from the factory farms. All the antibiotics, growth hormones, poop, puss, cancers, and the list goes on and on. You will get what you deserve in the long run.

As for you pro lifers folks who are basically saying that why should any one else have a cause and show any compassion for any other being in this world, because unborn babies are being butchered, there are lots of worthwhile causes, many injustices going on in this world and if you were truly compassionate people and not so very narrow minded, you would care about all living beings, not just the unborn fetuses who are not getting a chance to live in this lovely world we have at our disposal. I would never, ever consider commenting on one of the articles that cover one of your planned parenthood protests and slam you because of your beliefs and your cause. All of you bashers make me so not proud to be part of the same human race as you.

Thank goodness for people like this young lady who organized this protest and all of her caring friends who I venture to say probably have other compassionate causes as well. To the group who protested at McDonald’s, my hat is off to you. I applaud you and you restore my faith in believing there are intelligent compassionate people out there willing to take the wrath of the masses of ignorant people that have nothing better to do than criticize. Remember through all the bashing, there are people out there that give you nothing but props. We admire and respect what you do. Keep up the good work and don't get discouraged. We need more of you in this world. Many, many more.

If you drive up to Columbia you can see duck and chicken heads on sale (the way it was in the old miner days) in one of the buildings. You can order chicken feet in San Francisco.

Yum yum, dim sum.

Paige209,

A fetus can feel pain, read about it, educate your self before you just listen to your liberal close minded friends, classmates and professors.

http://discovermagazine.com/2005/dec/fetus-feel-pain

China, Japan, Thailand why would I even start to care? The kids make great shoes??? Instead of trying to help the kids, buy American products as this is the best way to combat child labor and increase American jobs and decrease American poverty.

I tied a fishing line to a large rock and baited a hook with food for the seagulls and then pretend I was an air traffic controller. But for some reason they always fell short of the runway and never landed on runway 2 Left.

Chicken Cannon!!! WOW just thought of that. Million dollar idea folks!!

For a limited time offer you can go to chickencannon.com and buy yourself not one but......... wait for it....... wait for it...... two cannons for only $19.95! Play with your friends, shoot chickens out at amazing speeds! Launch them head first into a wall. Amaze your friends. Shoot them off a large cliff and place bets to see if they can fly.

The AMAZING CHICKEN CANNON! Puuucoooock!!!

Buy one now and we will throw in a free coupon for a bucket of chicken fried alive. (some chicken bits may or may not contain beaks)

BTW, I just waterboarded a beetle and a pincher bug. Wait...... is that you running down the block with a sign?

While I am all for treating animals as humanely as possible, let’s not get carried away here. At the end of the day, we need to feed people. To do so we need to create sustainable resources that can be produced quickly and be cost effective so we can offer food at a reasonable price so folks can eat.

in a perfect world I image everyone would like to only eat free range chickens and free range beef and wild organic plants that balance the needs of the planet with the well being of the food source and the needs of the people, but that is simply not practical.

So we have to raise animals in confined conditions without any bells and whistles. Their brief life is not personally satisfying I am sure, but their creation was not brought about so they could prance around a meadow, but to simply get big enough in a couple months to provide a family some nourishment.

While PETA may have the interests of the animals they attempt to make their lives more enjoyable, but until they propose another way of feeding humanity, they should stick to placing racy ads with hot celebs preferring to wear nothing instead of wearing fur.

If yall are takin this seriously an object ta McDonalds an the way they prepare thair chicken, an yer not a complete vegan an don't use any animal products what so ever in any shape fashion or form, ya are a hypocrite.

That means medicin, leather pants, shoes, belts, coats, or down comforters, silk hose, wool coats an the like. No eggs, no milk, no steak, no hamburgers, no fish. Absolutely nothing that comes from an animal. An don’t forget machinery that uses leather parts as well. Little leather grommets used in carburetion systems of cars an the like. Bike tire pumps an air compressor parts.

If ya use any product that came from or was tested on an animal an ya take exception ta the way McDonalds buys chickens slaughtered by Tyson, yer nothing but a hypocrite.

I don’t particularly like people yammerin at me through thair pie hole an telling me what ta do an whair I spend my money, when they are really doing pretty much tha same thing elsewhars in thair own lives. Got enough politicians doin thair own thing an telling me how to live otherwise ta last a lifetime. Don’t need a hypocrite tellin me what ta do an how ta live.

Now all of this talk about chicken is givin me a hankerin fer a nice tasty chicken sandwich frum McDonalds, see ya all thair.
