Wong died Friday at Doctor’s Medical Center in Modesto after being flown by helicopter to the crash, according to Adam Shelton, CHP spokesman for the Tracy office.
A CHP officer at the scene on Friday described the Wong’s injuries as “major”.
Officers worked during the weekend to identify the man because no driver’s license was found at the scene.
Wong was driving east on I-205 in a 2002 Volkswagen Cabrio in the right lane when he drifted into the middle lane of the three-lane highway and struck a 2011 Ford pickup, according to a CHP report of witness statements.
The car then veered back across the road and drove off the freeway, crossing the median dividing I-205 from the 11th Street off-ramp.
The car rolled through the median and landed on its roof on the south side of the 11th Street off-ramp.
Tracy Fire Department crews cut the driver free of the wreckage, and he was flown to the Modesto hospital, where he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
