The Kimball High Jaguars took a 37-24 halftime lead on the way to a 73-52 win against visiting Pacheco High on Wednesday, Dec. 4.
The Jaguars took control in the second quarter and continued to outscore the Pacheco Panthers in the third quarter.
Senior Jonah Laguana led Kimball (1-1) in scoring with 16 points. Junior Jhordin Mellion tossed in 11 more, and senior Ali Habal added 10.
In their first game of the season, the Jaguar boys fell behind at the half and finished with a 78-74 loss Saturday, Nov. 30, at Livermore High.
Kimball’s offense picked up in the second half, and the Jaguars’ defensive press was effective in the fourth quarter, but Livermore kept its lead until the end.
Habal scored 16 points, senior Ben Juarez scored 13 and Mellion and senior J.D. Schmidt tossed in 12 each.
Delta Charter 66, Livermore Valley Prep 24
Delta Charter High junior Jordan Thornton nailed his outside shots Tuesday, Dec. 3, scoring 18 points for the Dragons (2-0), including four 3-pointers, in a victory at home against Livermore Valley Prep.
Thornton also had 10 assists. Junior Dramell Pits scored 10 points, and junior Marcus Anderson pulled in 14 rebounds.
The Dragons opened their season with a 43-33 win at home against the Millennium High Falcons on Saturday, Nov. 30.
Pitts and Thornton each scored 12 points for the Dragons and sophomore Dylan Abrahamson scored seven, including two 3-point shots. Senior Andrew Silva was the Dragons’ lead defensive player.

West 71, Johansen 52
West High (1-0) quickly established itself as solid shooting team with a 22-12 first-quarter lead over Johansen High on Saturday, Nov. 30, in Modesto in West’s first game of the season.
Seniors Anthony Ross and Kenneth Thompson and freshman Ephraim Estell all hit 3-point shots in the first quarter, and the Wolf Pack charged ahead again in the third on the way to victory.
Senior Alvin Crenshaw scored 19 points for West, and junior Spencer Carroll contributed 12 points.
Central Valley 84, Tracy 81
A 37-point second quarter by the Tracy High Bulldogs boys basketball team wasn’t enough to beat the Central Valley Hawks of Ceres on opening night Friday, Nov. 29, in Bill Swenson Gymnasium.
Central Valley’s 84-81 win concluded a back-and-forth contest that turned in the Hawks’ favor in the second half.
The Bulldogs (0-1) were down 25-15 after the first quarter but caught up in the second with 3-point shots from seniors Damon Stroup and Devin Foster and juniors Druce Asah and Kellan Magaoay. Tracy also sank 13 of 15 free throws in the second, taking a 52-38 halftime lead.
Central Valley took the lead back in the third quarter, when the foul calls favored the Hawks. The visitors sank 29 of 42 shots from the line for the night.
Senior Josh Brakkee was Tracy’s leading scorer with 28 points and also had 12 rebounds. Foster scored 15 points, including three 3-pointers. The leading scorer for the night was the Hawks’ Jaron Dickson with 40 points.
Turlock Christian 65, Millennium 50
The Millennium High Falcons got off to a slow start in their opening game of the winter season, losing to Turlock Christian High on Friday, Nov. 29, at West High.
Turlock Christian seized the advantage for a 29-17 lead in the first half. Milllennium picked up the pace in the second half but couldn’t catch up.
The Falcons’ leading scorer was senior Marques Shanks with 13 points. Senior Derritt Scarver scored nine, and junior Isaiah Williams scored eight.
