The Kimball High’s varsity boys basketball team edged ahead of the home Buffaloes in the first half Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Manteca High and held on for a 56-47 win, their second of the Valley Oak League season.

Kimball (10-6 overall, 2-1 VOL) was ahead 25-21 at the half and gained some separation over Manteca (8-7, 1-2) in the fourth quarter.

Senior guard Chandler Alves totaled 17 points for the Jaguars, and seniors Alex Toledo and DeVante Baisa scored 11 each.

Delta Charter 70, Hughes Academy 47

The Dragons used outside shooting Monday, Jan. 7, at Delta Charter High School to control the game against Hughes for their second Mountain Valley League win.

The Dragons (2-6 overall, 2-0 MVL) hit five 3-point shots, including three for junior guard Jordan Thornton. He was the game’s overall scoring leader with 23 points, and also had five steals for the night.

Sophomore forward Deandre Ragsdale scored 19 points, including two 3’s in the first quarter, and senior center Joseph Peebles tossed in 18 points and collected 16 rebounds.

Kimball 50, Oakdale 41

After a close first half, the Jaguars’ defense limited the visiting Mustangs’ offense Friday, Jan. 4, at Kimball High to surge to victory.

Leading the way for Kimball was senior forward Alex Toledo with four 3-point shots and 15 points total. Senior forward Derek Van de Streek scored 12, DeVante Baise added nine and Evan Owens contributed eight.

It was the second straight league loss for Oakdale (3-7, 0-2 VOL).
