Pirate ships, butterflies and fish dotted the sky above Mountain House during the eighth annual Kite Run and Festival on Saturday, June 8.

The day began with 5K and 10K runs around Mountain House Creek Park. Children 12 and younger participated in a quarter-mile fun run.

Kite fliers at Central Park braved triple-digit temperatures to coax their kites aloft in gusty winds swirling across Central Park.

An inflatable water slide and the park’s water play area helped with the afternoon heat.

The annual kite festival and runs make up the biggest community event of the year for Mountain House residents.
