Biz Buzz: Dickey’s opens in south Tracy

Fans of barbecue will be delighted to learn that Dickey’s Barbecue Pit will celebrate its grand opening Saturday at 2610 S. Tracy Blvd.

Located in the Red Maple Shopping Center, anchored by Raley’s supermarket, Dickey’s will serve its signature brisket, pulled pork and ribs, according to restaurant manager Mike Lowery.

Lowery plans to operate the restaurant with his wife, Nicole, but the owner of the franchise is his father-in-law, Nick Pena.

Pena, a former Tracy police officer, is no stranger to franchise ownership, Lowery said. He previously owned 7-Eleven on Grant Line Road and a Wingstop restaurant in Stockton that Lowery managed.

Born and raised in Tracy, Lowery said his family wanted to stay local with the new franchise.

“It looked like a great center,” he said. “Feels like a good fit. The neighbors are great. We’re excited to be a part of the community and excited to stay local where all of our family and friends are.”

He added, “This company has been around since 1941, and they’re real passionate about the art of barbecue.”

All meats are slow smoked in each fast-casual restaurant.

Some of Dickey’s specialties are box lunches that start at $7.95 each and a catered full-service buffet for $13.95 per person that features meat carved on site.

During the grand opening Saturday, Lowery said one lucky customer will receive a $500 gift card, and $2 pulled pork barbecue sandwiches are available to everyone.

The restaurant will be open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Specials include free children’s meals on Sundays and free soft-serve ice cream for every dine-in customer.

Dickey's was sure crowded over the weekend! So many people were saying good things about the food so we had to try it. Waited forever to order my food.

First, the way they take orders is horrible. No wonder why the line is soo long. But that's not a major concern since it was the grand opening weekend. The food? Not what I expected. The food was sooo salty and the meat tough. Why do restaurants put so much salt in everything? The beef brisket was good but the ribs, not what I expected.....Kinder's is way better?

Overall, I'd give it a 5 out of 10.

I thought it was outstanding and loved the pulled pork. I'm sensitive to the salt in restaurants and expected it but my pork was not salty. The portions were large. I enjoyed my side dishes as well. Te first month of any restaurant is usually a learning experience for any business - give it another try.
