West High will have a contingent of baseball ambassadors in Italy next week to play a series of double-headers against that country’s local teams.

Wolf Pack baseball coach Roger Gallardo said he sought out local players to be part of the America’s Team program, which works with the American Council for International Studies.

“It’s just an experience for these kids to go have fun and understand what it’s like to play in another country,” Gallardo said.

Five West players — recent graduate Garrett Speckman and rising seniors Carter Nott, Jack Kelley and Jose Hernandez and sophomore Mike Manley — will join the trip. Eric Dobberpuhl, an incoming senior at Monte Vista High in Danville, will also join the group.

Gallardo said the America’s Team staff will round out the squad with six players from Florida.

They will travel to Rome on Monday and will stay through July 15. Games will include a double-header in Acilia, just outside of Rome, on Wednesday, a double-header in Montecatini near Florence on July 12 and a double-header in Milan on July 14.
