The Kimball High sophomore team sealed their place as tournament champions Wednesday in the final game of the Augie Vierra Memorial Baseball Tournament at the Tracy Learning Center, taking 9-0 win over the host team, the Millennium junior varsity squad.
The Jaguars had three wins for the tournament, which went through schedule changes as teams got in games between rain showers this week and worked around spring break schedules. Pittsburg High’s junior varsity team went 1-1 for the week, West won a game, and Millennium’s junior varsity team lost four games.
Kimball scored three runs in the first inning, four in the third and two more in the seventh, all on eight hits. The Falcons had four hits for the day and twice had runners in scoring position but couldn’t bring them in.
Kimball’s Dylan Davis and Trevor Trew led their team at the plate as each doubled and singled, and Sammy Duran, Junior Romero, Brennan Bowman, Kyle Riley and Sean Rodriguez all singled.
Trew pitched five innings and gave up four hits and no runs and struck out three for the win. Duran and Orr each pitched an inning of relief, and each struck out two and allowed no hits.
Hits for Millennium included a double for Giacomo Oliveri and singles for Eddie Diaz, Daniel Gutierrez and Malik Charles. Diaz pitched six innings for the Falcons and gave up seven runs on six hits, and Oliveri pitched two innings and allowed two runs on two hits.

Tuesday’s game in Millennium’s Augie Vierra Tournament didn’t heat up until the sixth inning, when West’s freshman team scored three runs to break a 2-2 tie.
The Millennium junior varsity team came back with three runs in the bottom of the sixth and the 5-5 tie put the teams into extra innings.
West rallied in the top of the ninth inning to make it a 10-5 game, and the Falcons fought back for three runs in the bottom of the ninth, but West’s infield took care of the Millennium base runners before the Falcons were able to catch up again.
West closing pitcher Jose Hernandez got the win. He also led West at the plate with a triple and two singles and two RBIs in the ninth. Ryan Wagner also doubled and singled at the plate.
