The Eagles from Enochs High of Modesto outhit and outlasted Tracy High’s baseball team on Monday, May 21, to knock the Bulldogs out of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I playoffs.

“We just ran out of pitching,” Tracy coach Vic Alkire said. “They did too, but they were able to hang on at the end.”

Tracy’s 10-8 loss on Monday ends the Bulldogs’ season.

Tracy went 14-1 in the San Joaquin Athletic Association and won the league title, in addition to posting a 24-6 record overall.

Enochs (17-10-1 overall, 12-0 in the Modesto Metro Conference) ended its season with a 6-3 loss to Buhach Colony on Tuesday, May 22.

Buhach Colony will play St. Mary’s on Wednesday, May 23, for the Division I South title.

Tracy started the playoffs with a 7-2 win Thursday, May 17, over Tokay as sophomore pitcher Jonah Wesely threw a 99-pitch no-hitter.

Alkire said he planned to have Wesely start again if the team played in Tuesday’s semifinals.

That meant the rest of Tracy’s pitching staff would have to hold up against Buhach Colony, the first-place team from the Central California Conference, and Enochs, champion of the Modesto Metro Conference.

Buhach Colony’s bats pummeled Tracy with 15 hits on Saturday, May 19, to hand the Bulldogs a 14-7 loss in the third round, Tracy’s first loss in double elimination play.

Coaches went through the team’s pitching rotation again Monday as Enochs collected 13 hits and finally bounced Tracy from the postseason.

Tracy had nine hits for the day Monday.

Shull homered and batted in two runs, Wesely went 3-for-4 including a double, and Cody Daniel and David Miranda both doubled.

Tracy had a 4-0 lead after two innings. But Enochs scored three in the top of the third and took a 5-4 lead with two more runs in the fourth off starting pitcher Reilly Oki, who went 3 2/3 innings and gave up seven hits.

Dustin Dibble came in to pitch in the fourth and gave up a run on two hits over 1 2/3 innings. Tracy scored in the fifth and sixth innings to make it a 6-6 game.

Shull was tagged with the loss after he pitched a full inning and allowed four hits. Enochs scored four runs in the top of the seventh before Wesely came in to close the seventh, giving up no runs or hits.

Tracy came up with just two runs in the bottom of the seventh, not enough to prolong the Bulldogs’ season.
