A body was retrieved from the Delta-Mendota Canal east of Hansen Road shortly after noon today by Alameda and San Joaquin County sheriff's departments and the Tracy Fire Department.
The body belongs to an Asian male in his late teens or early 20s, who was reported missing Sunday morning after falling into the canal in Alameda County, said San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Les Garcia.
Garcia said the young man was fishing with his family and friends near Mountain House Parkway when he fell.
The family had tried to rescue him, but the rapid current swept him away until a witness spotted the body three days later. A worker at the Tracy Costco warehouse called 9-1-1 to report seeing the body at 11:31 a.m. today, according to Garcia.
The body reportedly floated downstream east of Hansen Road, where it was finally pulled onshore.
The coroner’s office will not release the name, age or city of residence until family members confirm the identity.
