The preparations were for the circus’ five-day performance that opens Thursday, Aug. 23.
The 90,000-square-foot tent took crews about four hours to haul up Tuesday afternoon using cables and straps. The tent will be held in place with 500 poles and can seat 1,500 spectators.
Performing under the big top will be an animal-free show with music, live acts and acrobats — including, for the first time, the Human Rocket.
The circus opens at 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23; and also has shows at 5 and 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, and Saturday, Aug. 25, at 4 and 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, and a finale at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27.
Tickets are on sale for between $15 and $65 at www.circusvargas.com.

Countries around the world, as well as municipalities in the United States, have partial or full bans on circus animals. The Traveling Exotic Animal Protection Act, H.R. 3359, is a federal bill that would amend the Animal Welfare Act to restrict the use of exotic and non-domesticated animals in circuses and traveling shows. http://breakthechainus.com/
The overwhelming evidence and documentation of the abuse animals endure in circuses is irrefutable. If we make a more informed and compassionate choice by not attending and supporting animal-employed circuses, we can end the cruel archaic institution.
Animal free?? WTF? How can it be called a circus with no animal acts? That would be like having a barbeque with no meat. This is no doubt the result of bean counters involved in managing the circus trying to save a few bucks on animal care. Bad move in my opinion.
