Eight local eighth-graders visited Memuro, Tracy’s city sister in Japan, during an eight-day trip in June.

Carter Nott (from left), Elliott Bullard, Daryn Higaki, Chelsea Linaweaver, Christian Balderas, Alyssa Elliott, Ryan Landon and Jeanette Vuong stayed with host families, experienced a traditional Japanese tea ceremony and visited museums and shrines, including this one in Hokkaido.

Among the highlights, the young ambassadors reported, was riding a zip line through a Biratori-town park.

Before the trip, they learned the basics of the Japanese language, culture and customs, and several hosted exchange students from Memuro in March. Chaperones Mary Mantor and Jacqui Nott accompanied the group.
