The Stage 3 route from San Jose to Livermore will include a stretch of rural back road between Byron and Patterson Pass roads, with the lead riders to reach Mountain House Road and Byron Highway at about 2:30 p.m.
Riders will head south along Mountain House Road, head over to Midway Road and then connect with Patterson Pass Road and ride over the 1,600-foot pass at about 3 p.m. Organizers expect it will take about an hour for all of the riders to pass through this section of the race.
The tour begins Sunday, May 13, with its Santa Rosa-to-San Francisco stage and will ride from San Francisco to Santa Cruz County on Monday, May 14.
Tuesday’s third stage starts in San Jose, heads into the hills to Calaveras Reservoir and then continues north through Livermore to Mount Diablo.
Riders will go up the mountain along Mount Diablo Scenic Boulevard to South Gate Road and will ascend to the intersection of Summit Road and North Gate Road, the high point of the route at 2,250 feet, just west of the mountain’s 3,849-foot summit. They will ride into Walnut Creek and then back toward Byron.
