Speech and debate team succeeds
Delta Charter High School’s speech and debate team took third place against 20 other schools at Turlock High School. Delta Charter junior Jordan Dacayanan took first place in the international extemporaneous competition, senior Danielle Raymus took second in dramatic interpretation and sophomore Melissa Pacheco took fifth in dramatic interpretation. Delta Charter is part of the Big Valley District, which has 17 schools.
Oratory contest winners
Three Tracy High School students recently competed in an oratory contest sponsored by James McDermott Post 172 of the American Legion. Malcolm Maxwell won a $100 savings bond and a chance to compete in the Area 3 contest today in Modesto. Manot Bagri won a $75 savings bond, and Stephen Zendejas won a $50 savings bond.
The students gave 10-minute talks on the importance of the Constitution and three- to five-minute talks on impeachment of federal officials to a panel of five judges. George Kelly, chairman of the oratory committee, moderated the contest.
