Accolade: Local teenager earns promotion at military school

Brandon Van Patten, a Mountain House resident and student at Marine Military Academy in Texas, has been promoted to company commander of Golf Company.

He is the son of Liz Nonato de Jesus and the late Phil Van Patten.

As company commander, Van Patten will help supervise more than 50 cadets in his company. He proved his leadership for the position during MMA Summer Camp, serving as the head cadet instructor for Golf Company.

He is an Eagle Scout and captain of the MMA jujitsu team.

Van Patten will graduate in May. He hopes to pursue a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or business at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., or The Citadel in Charleston, S.C., with the intention of becoming an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps.
