The Tracy Art League will begin accepting entries for the 22nd annual Expressions! juried art show beginning Friday, Feb. 8.

The juried art show at the Tracy Community Center, 950 East St., will present paintings and sculptures from artists throughout the region.

Ann Langley, co-chair of the Expressions! show, expects about 375 artworks will be submitted. From that collection, Langley says about 225 pieces will be used for this year’s show.

“Every year is a new adventure, and the art work is always different,” Langley said.

The 2013 Expressions! show will be juried by Stockton artist Barbara DeVol, who specializes in paintings of reflections.

DeVol has previously won best of show at Expressions!.

Artists can bring their entries to the center between 5 and 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9.

Works can be oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, drawings, graphics or mixed media. Sculptures and 3-D art have a 50-pound weight limit.

Photographs and computer generated artworks are not eligible.

An artist reception will kick off the display from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Feb. 15, a Friday.

The exhibition will be open to the public from 3 to 7 p.m. Feb. 16 and 17, and from 3 to 7 p.m. Feb. 18 to 22.

Entry to the exhibition is free.

Thousands of Tracy Unified School District students will also get a special look at the artwork during docent-led tours starting in mid February.

Langley said more than 3,000 students from second grade through high school are expected to visit.

“The tours filled in a flash — we always have a waiting list,” she said.

Tours will be held Tuesday, Feb. 12, to Thursday, Feb. 14, with a second round from Feb. 19 to 22.

Docents will teach visiting students about the different types of art styles and media.

High school students will also job shadow the docents this year, and will then lead the tours themselves.

“We keep adding layers to the education,” Langley said. “This program is unique in getting the kids here (for the tours).”

A number of pieces will be chosen for the Expressions! Selections show March 30 to May 11 at the Grand Theatre Center for the Arts, 715 Central Ave.

The gallery will have an opening reception March 30 from noon to 2 p.m.

Artists will discuss their works during a gathering at the Grand on April 27 from noon to 2 p.m.
