The Bulldogs will face defending tournament champion Brookside Christian of Stockton at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, for a chance to play for the tournament title Saturday, Dec. 29.
Also in the running for the tournament championship are Gregori of Modesto and Patterson High. They play at 6 p.m. at Tracy High.
Tracy 44, Modesto 42
The Bulldogs and Panthers stayed within two points of each other most of the night in a back-and-forth matchup at Tracy High.
Tracy (8-5) didn’t make any shots from the floor until midway through the first quarter, when senior guard Shelby Devlin hit a 3-pointer to make it a 5-5 game.
Tracy built a five-point lead over Modesto (6-5) near the end of the first half — the biggest lead either team would have for the rest of the game.
The teams traded the lead several times until the end of the fourth quarter, when Devlin, Tracy’s scoring leader with 14 points, and senior guard Karsi Fyfe, who totaled 10 points, hit shots from the floor to put Tracy up 42-38.
Modesto sophomore Povai Fesili hit her third 3-point shot of the night to keep it close in the final minute, but Tracy got a couple free throws from Fyfe and senior Emily Anchartechahar in the last half-minute to seal the win.
Turlock 53, West 50
The Wolf Pack was sunk by a last-second 3-pointer by the Bulldogs in a consolation bracket game at West High.
West (8-6) tied the game at 50-50 in the game’s final minute with a field goal and free throw from junior Nini Woodward, the team’s top scorer on the night with 15 points.
But after achieving the tie, West ran a couple plays but couldn’t make its shots.
Turlock (2-7), on the other hand, converted its final possession into the game-winner.
The Bulldogs got a rebound and made a dash up the court, with a West player knocking the ball out of bounds as the clock ran out.
Officials put one second on the clock and gave Turlock the ball, giving junior Karly Schumann enough time hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give her team the win.
West had pulled ahead briefly in the third quarter after Turlock (2-7) took a 25-24 halftime lead.
The Bulldogs took the game back at the end of the third quarter when Schumann stole the ball and made a layup at the buzzer.
West caught up again in the fourth quarter on shots from Woodward and senior Emma Bell, who scored 14.
West plays next against El Camino in a 3 p.m. consolation bracket game at West High on Friday.
