Three months of surveillance netted police 392 marijuana plants and three suspected growers during a Friday morning raid on a Tracy house.

Four undercover and three uniformed officers closed in on a home at 1999 Monique St. at about 10 a.m. after the suspects tried to drive away from the house. Officers apprehended 36-year-old Thong Ly of San Pablo, 33-year-old Can Ly of San Ramona, both brothers, and 34-year-old John Vuong of San Francisco in the driveway of the house after they tried to leave in a Chevrolet Tahoe.

For the next two hours, police collected marijuana plants and grow lights from the 3,400-square-foot home. It was the culmination of a long surveillance operation, set up after police received an anonymous tip about the house.

Tracy city spokesman officer Matt Robinson said the suspects had put a lot of time and effort into their operation.

"The electricity had been circumvented to bypass the electrical box," Robinson said. "They had quite the setup."

A neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous because of fear of retaliation, said that the suspected growers had their own self-sustaining operation that she didn’t even know was there.

"I thought the house was in foreclosure and no one lived there," the neighbor said. "Then the police told me that they had seized generators, grow lights and marijuana."

Mold could be seen on the windows and on the walls as well as a grow light through an upstairs window from the side of the house.

The neighbor also said a strong smell of mold drifted out of the house when police opened the windows after the raid.

"It’s probably a hazard right now," the neighbor said. "But we had no idea, that’s for sure. We had never seen any activity at the house."

The three suspects were booked Friday afternoon into San Joaquin County Jail in French Camp on suspicion of growing marijuana with intent to sell.
