Future Sportz Starz

DETAILS: Classes offered through the City of Tracy’s recreation department will teach football and basketball skills to children ages 3 to 6. Football Starz begins Sept. 11, with classes for the 3-year-olds starting at 9 a.m. and classes for each age group, 4, 5, and 6, starting on the hour all morning. The same format is used for Hoop Starz, which begins on Oct. 9. Classes include 25 minutes of instruction and 25 minutes of competition.

Baseball tryouts

DETAILS: All American Sports Academy seeks players for its 13-and-under baseball team. Players should call ahead for tryout times and locations. AASA also needs players for other 10-and-under to 14-and-under baseball teams for the fall season.

2010 Bean Run

WHEN: 8 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 11

WHERE: Tracy City Hall, 10th and East streets

DETAILS: 5K and 10K races are once again part of the Tracy Dry Bean Festival. Runners who pre-register by Aug. 20 get a $5 discount on the entry fee. Day-of registration will begin at 6 a.m., and the race starts at 8 a.m. and will go to 11th Street, Tracy Boulevard to Schulte Road and back.

COST: $25 adult, $20 ages 17 and under.

Tracy Storm girls basketball tryouts WHEN: 5:45 to 7 p.m., every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, starting in September.

National Junior Basketball

DETAILS: The Tracy Chapter of the National Junior Basketball League is now taking registration for its fall season. Teams with players in kindergarten through eighth grade will play in tournaments all around Northern California. The local league included more than 200 players last year, including a third- and fourth-grade team that placed third in national competition. Deadline to register is Oct. 17.

COST: $300, $275 if received by Oct. 10.
